Itinerary

The toe of Italy's boot...is the mythical Region of Calabria, or as we call it, the Kingdom of the Sun.  On its west side, it is lapped by the immemorial waves of the Tyrrhenian Sea, cruising waters of Ulysses and his Argonauts, and on its east side, by the shimmering waters of the fabled Ionian Sea. 

 

This is more than South of Rome...this is another world, once the homeland of Italy's earliest peoples, then of the Greeks whose Calabria colonies were an important part of Magna Grecia, then of the Romans, Byzantines, Normans, Spanish, French and host of others.  Calabria is a multilayered place of historical fact, myth and magic.
 

Day 1: Arrival in Lamezia Terme

Transfer from Lamezia Terme to Siderno Marina

Rest of the day at leisure
 

Day 2

‘Coast to coast’ excursion

Excursion to Reggio Calabria, and the famous bronze statues of Riace. Visit to Messina and Taormina. Lunch in a restaurant in Taormina and visit of the town and its world famous Theatre.
 

Day 3

Caulonia excursion

Morning free. Lunch. Excursion to Caulonia (Greek Kaulon). Visit to the 6th and 7th Centuries churches and their treasures. Visit the Civic Museum. Back to the Hotel for a typical dinner, rounded by warm hospitality and folkloristic music.
 

Day 4

Siderno at Leisure

Free day. Full board by the Hotel. Siderno is set on the Ionian coast and is 115 kilometres from the capital, Reggio Calabria. After dinner Folklore Night, dancing the Tarantella with dancers in typical ancient dresses.
 

Day 5

Excursion to Tropea

Visit to the Cathedral and Old Town, stop by the “Affaccio” and its breathtaking view over the Tyrrhenian sea. Lunch in a typical restaurant. Dinner at the Hotel followed by music and dancing evening.
 

Day 6

Excursion to Gerace

Free morning. Afternoon to the medieval town of Gerace. Visit the Cathedral, the church of St. Francis, and local artisan shops. Continue with the visit of Locri’s archaeological sites and museum.
 

Day 7:
