Itinerary

Puglia is the heel of Italy's boot
- a long peninsular land that extends along the Adriatic
coast until it merges with the Ionian Sea. Apulia’s
sometimes gentle, sometimes rugged landscape yields amazing
grains, olive oils and wines that are sought by gourmands
around the world.
And, with some of Italy's most interesting
architecture, from the astounding Trulli structures of
Alberobello to the fearless Norman forts that dot the
region, to the amazing Baroque cathedrals that grace the
piazzas of its oldest cities, Puglia abounds with the
treasures that a traveler craves.

Day
1: Arrival
in Bari
|
|
Afternoon:
Transfer from Bari Airport to Lecce
Rest of the day at leisure
|
| |
Day 2
|

|
Lecce Guided
Tour
Lecce is
often referred to as the "Florence of the South."
Take note however, that Lecce has a style and grace all
her own and really, what really should be said is that
there is no Lecce of the north.
|
| |
Day 3
|

|
Otranto Guided Tour
Otranto is situated on the east coast of the Salento
peninsula. The town was
named Hydruntum after the
river Idro (Hydrus) by the
Romans.
|
| |
Day 4
|

|
Gallipoli
Guided Tour
Gallipoli
derives its name from the Greek "Kallipolis". Similarly
to the Turkish town of this same name, Gallipoli
occupies a strategic location and thus was repeatedly
attacked through the centuries.
|
| |
Day 5
|

|
Matera
Guided Tour
This
is the most outstanding,
intact example of a
troglodyte settlement in the
Mediterranean region,
perfectly adapted to its
terrain and ecosystem. The
first inhabited zone dates
from the Palaeolithic
times.

| |
Day
6
|

|
Morning:
Alberobello Guided Tour
Alberobello
has become famous internationally because of its "Trulli",
cone shaped houses constructed in stone blocks known as
'chiancole'. The old town is
divided into two districts which
are of national importance and have been granted special
status by U.N.E.S.C.O.
|
| |
|

|
The Grotta di Castellana lies near the small town
Castellana, re-named Castellana-Grotte several years
ago.
Visitors
are rewarded with one of the most beautiful sights: a
showcase of pure white speleothems, stalactites,
stalagmites, curtains, calcite crystals, and helictites.
